PerioMonitor™, Developed by Oral Science, Receives Class III Medical Device License from Health Canada; Shipments Planned for June 2025
Oral Science proudly announces that PerioMonitor™, its innovative point-of-care diagnostic tool for detecting oral inflammation, has received a Class III medical device license from Health Canada (License No. 112647). This first-of-its-kind test offers a rapid, cost-effective, and user-friendly method for assessing inflammation in dental practices.
PerioMonitor™ utilizes a simple colorimetric approach based on oral neutrophil enzymatic activity. Patients rinse with a 10 mL solution for 30 seconds, then expectorate into a test container. A test strip is dipped into the sample, and within a minute, a color change from clear to purple indicates inflammation levels, which are compared to a reference chart for interpretation.
Developed under the leadership of Dr. Michael Glogauer, a renowned Toronto-based periodontist, Chief of Dentistry for the University Health Network, and Head of Dental Oncology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, this device represents a breakthrough in personalized periodontal disease assessment, management, and treatment. Dr. Glogauer emphasized the significance of PerioMonitor™ in providing dental professionals with an essential tool to rapidly assess and monitor inflammation, enabling early intervention and ultimately improving patient health outcomes.
Oral Science CEO and co-founder Daniel Ménard highlighted that this launch marks the culmination of 12 years of research and development. He described PerioMonitor™ as the missing link in patient periodontal treatment acceptance, aligning with Oral Science’s mission to provide evidence-based solutions that enhance clinical outcomes.
Pre-orders for PerioMonitor™ are now open, with shipments beginning in June 2025. Founded 21 years ago, Oral Science continues to advance periodontal care through diagnostic tools, in-office and home-care treatments, and comprehensive team education, ensuring optimal patient and practice success.
